Henry Mayo Bateman was one of the most successful and popular British cartoonists. He is probably most famous for his series of cartoons entitled "The Man Who..." which higlighted British social gaffes of the day.

This caricature, which was featured in the book H M Bateman on Music, is of the pianist Rausch. It is a signed and dated original in pen Indian and monochrome wash on watercolour paper.
